Current Research

Standardized test scores show boys score lower than girls in reading. Researchers have noticed the literacy of boys to be different from girls for several reasons. Boys like different topics than girls. Boys read differently than girls. They may scan rather than read. Boys read for different purposes than girls. They read to find out information rather than for enjoyment. In their writing boys may have more action, violence or humor than girls. This year we can examine our literacy practices for boys. Maybe we can begin some teacher research in our classrooms. What do you think?
